Egyptian nigella (Nigella sativa) from Upper Egypt — black seed, or habbat al-barakah — is supplied as whole seeds and as cold-pressed oil. Egyptian nigella has a long-established position in the international trade, and it serves both the culinary market and, in considerably larger value terms, the nutraceutical and herbal-products industries.
Whole seed is supplied for culinary use, for bakery topping, for grinding and for pressing. Where the requirement is the cold-pressed oil rather than the seed, the specification is agreed separately, since oil is a distinct product with its own parameters and its own documentation requirements.
Applications include bakery and confectionery topping, spice blends, herbal and nutraceutical preparations, food-supplement manufacture, and cosmetic formulation. Buyers formulating for the supplement market typically have documentation, traceability and testing requirements well above the culinary trade, and those are agreed before contracting rather than assumed.
Upper Egypt's irrigated season and dry harvest window allow the seed to be dried quickly, and the crop passes a cleaning sequence removing stalk, chaff, soil, stones and off-size seed, with optical sorting where specified. Each shipment carries a lot-specific certificate of analysis. Specifications are available upon request and can be tailored to buyer requirements, and technical specifications are provided according to destination-market requirements. FOB Alexandria with the complete export documentation set.
