Egyptian Thyme

Egyptian thyme (Thymus vulgaris) from Sinai is supplied as leaves, ground, and whole. Sinai's dry climate and well-drained soils suit an aromatic shrub whose commercial value lies in its volatile oil, and the reliable dry harvest window allows the leaf to be dried quickly enough to preserve it.

Whole and leaf forms are specified where the buyer grinds close to use or where the material is visible in the finished product. Ground thyme is supplied where the process requires it, with the standard caution that a powder loses aroma faster than whole leaf and removes the possibility of visual verification.

Thyme is used in culinary seasoning and spice blends, in meat and convenience-food manufacture, in herbal infusions, and in botanical extraction. Across the Middle East it is also a core component of traditional za'atar blends, where consistency of aroma and leaf appearance between deliveries is the buying criterion.
