Egyptian Sweet Basil

Sweet basil (Ocimum basilicum) from Giza is supplied as whole leaves and cut. Basil is among the more difficult herbs to dry well: the leaf is thin and its aroma compounds are volatile, so drying that is too hot strips the aroma while drying that is too slow costs the green colour. Giza's dry harvest conditions allow the balance to be struck.

Whole leaf is specified where appearance matters in the finished product and where the buyer wants to control the cut themselves. Cut material is screened to an agreed size for blending, seasoning manufacture and applications where consistent particle size governs dosing.

Applications include culinary seasoning and Mediterranean spice blends, sauce and convenience-food manufacture, herbal infusions, and botanical extraction for flavour applications. Colour is frequently part of the specification alongside aroma, because a dull leaf reads as poorly handled material even where the aroma is intact.

Material is cleaned to remove stalk and field matter before packing, and each shipment carries a certificate of analysis for the lot supplied.
