Egyptian Spearmint

Egyptian spearmint (Mentha spicata) from Minya is supplied cut and sifted. Spearmint differs from peppermint in its aroma profile — carvone-dominant rather than menthol-dominant — which makes the two distinct products rather than interchangeable grades, and buyers should specify the species by botanical name rather than by the word "mint".

The material is screened to an agreed cut size. Tea bag and blending applications need a consistent particle size for dosing and extraction; loose infusion products are usually specified to a coarser cut where leaf appearance is part of the product.

Spearmint is used in herbal and traditional teas, in culinary applications across the Middle East and Mediterranean, in confectionery and flavouring, and in botanical extraction. Regional demand in the Gulf is well established and is bought on consistency between deliveries rather than on peak quality in any single lot.

Minya's dry harvest conditions allow the leaf to be dried quickly, which is what preserves the volatile oil and the green colour. Material is cleaned to remove stalk and field matter, and each shipment carries a lot-specific certificate of analysis.
