Product Overview
Egyptian lupine (Lupinus albus L.), known locally as "tirmis," is a traditional Mediterranean legume with exceptionally high protein content (35–45%) and growing global demand as a plant-based protein ingredient. Egypt's Upper Nile Valley produces premium sweet lupine varieties with reduced alkaloid levels, large uniform seeds, and the bright cream-yellow color that food processors and snack manufacturers prefer.
HS Herbs supplies whole dried lupine seeds of the sweet (low-alkaloid) variety, mechanically cleaned, de-stoned, and size-graded. Each lot is tested for protein content, alkaloid levels (typically < 0.02% for sweet varieties), moisture, and complete microbiology. We also offer bitter lupine for debittering processors.
Applications include brined lupine snacks (a Mediterranean and Middle Eastern tradition), plant-based protein ingredients, lupin flour production, vegan food formulations, animal feed, and emerging applications in dairy alternatives and meat analogs. HS Herbs exports to snack producers, protein ingredient companies, and food innovators across Europe, the Middle East, and Australia.
