Egyptian senna (Senna alexandrina Mill.) from the Aswan region is the world's gold standard for pharmaceutical-grade senna. Originally named "Alexandrian Senna" after Egypt's famous port, this species thrives in Upper Egypt's hot, arid climate, producing pods with exceptionally high sennoside A+B concentrations — the active compounds responsible for senna's well-documented laxative efficacy.
